Bakelite is an early Polymeric Plastic made from a Phenol Formaldehyde Resin which is unmeltable invented by Leo Hendrik Baekeland in 1907.
The Brooch is in Excellent condition. No chips or cracks. The back has the injected "C" Clasp Closure which is a significant factor in Early Bakelite Jewelry. Since it is Black Bakelite, it isn't receptive to the test. It was acquired from an Estate which consisted of items from the Art Deco period.
